In late autumn 2021, we have finally made it.

The first Solidaritree nursery has found its home. Perfectly located at the reservoir, the 5 hectares (50'000 m2) of land are ideally suited to produce the next generation of trees for various projects and at the same time turn the area into an eco-hotspot.

The map shows a rough initial zoning of the area based on the current vegetation and the water gradient.

These circumstances are considered by site-appropriate planting with different tree species. In the wet marginal zone, alders, willows and ash trees provide adequate bank stabilisation. In the intermediate zone, in addition to cork oak (Quercus suber) and Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica), a few hundred pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur) were planted, which we hope will survive despite severe summer drought due to the good groundwater supply. The drought-dominated zone in the west will be reforested with stone and cork oaks last and supplemented with some reptile-friendly structures such as cairns and sand lenses.
